About
Background and rationale
The first edition of the African CERDI Alumni Network Day (JARCA), scheduled for September 2026 in Cotonou, aims to be a pan-African framework for strategic reflection on economic policies and structural transformations of African economies in the era of artificial intelligence.
Under the general theme: "What model of economic development for African economies in the age of artificial intelligence?", JARCA aims to bring together public decision-makers, regional and international financial institutions, researchers, academics, private sector actors and technical and financial partners around the major issues of African economic development.
AI is profoundly changing the nature of jobs, tax systems, financing methods and development models. It creates new economic opportunities, while posing risks of job substitution, job polarization and worsening inequalities if it is not accompanied by appropriate policies.
Objectives
- Bringing together Africa's CERDI Alumni networks for a common reflection on the continent's economic challenges
- Analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on African economies
- Identify development models adapted to African realities in the era
